The Dealer (Reversed)
Vices * Desperation * Escape
This card nods at our tendency to lean into destructive behavior patterns during pain and vulnerability. Our descent into the drain while the dealer grins in his tux. The dealer appears when the stakes are high and the pain is raw. This card reflects on the choices we make, or choices that are made for us, during times of despair. The familiar spiral, the seductive pill of our self-sabotage. Whether it's substances, toxic connections, risky behavior, denial, or anger, the dealer reminds you that the house always wins when you bet against yourself. Here is the truth: recognizing the pattern is your power. We are not weak; we are wounded. This card invites you to pause, name the urge, honour its strength, and decide whether you want to play the same hand or walk away from the table.
Reversed
The dealer signals a breaking point - or a breakthrough. Maybe you are done numbing. Maybe you are still deep in it. This card reflects shame, secrecy, or the quiet exhaustion you may feel from trying to hold it all together. It may also reveal patterns passed down through generations, or survival mechanisms once needed that no longer serve you. You are being asked what it would look like to choose something different. What could be in you bet on your own healing?
“Addiction is not a choice anyone makes, it is not a moral failure. It is a response to human suffering.”
